The Key West Hard Rock Cafe opened in September 1996 with very few numbers of large logo pin. This is the last large logo from US locations. When the Atlantic City Hard Rock Cafe opened just 1 month later, they had only small version.

These logos are the first pins produced in clear epoxy enamel coating from the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel in their 7 years of history.

The sold version is flat bright yellow "Hard Rock", this original is the same die but the colors are translucent gold and came out darker. The very first printing (before the Hotel opened) Hard Rock Hotel did not like the colors, so they gave all away to a travel agent convention and re-colored the for sale version.

These 8 logos were made 4 pieces of each as prototypes. 3 sets of these were sent to Las Vegas, 1 set was for the Hotel's collection, 1 was given to the raffle winner at the PINDEX 2002 and the last one was sold at event auction.
